Citation monitoring is a board of questions you choose, checked on ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI, and coloured by a measured appearance — cited and named, named only, cited without the brand named, or absent.
It unlocks with Monitor. The free Layer 1 Audit measures whether an agent can reach, extract, and operate on the site. This product measures whether answer engines cite you for the questions you care about. Those are separate jobs.
You own the board. Branded questions prove the plumbing — can an engine find you by name. Goal questions are the authority signal — do you appear when the buyer does not mention you. The two rates are never blended in one sentence.
A pending slot has no check yet. It is never counted as a miss. Movement inside the noise floor is reported as no detectable change, not as a win. We do not guarantee citations.

A citation board you fill
Two lanes — branded and goal — with empty slots shown as capacity. You pick the questions; we suggest candidates from measured demand. Removals deactivate the prompt and keep history.
Appearance colours from real engines
Each slot is coloured by the same appearance model the scoreboard uses: cited and named, named only, cited without the brand named, or absent. The board and the rates cannot disagree.
Trend with a noise floor
Citation rates carry confidence intervals. Same-day re-runs publish a flip rate so platform noise is visible. A monitoring-only month can stay flat on goal questions — the report says so.
Who was cited instead
Non-green slots can show up to three measured domains that won the answer. Full share of voice and gap battlecards sit on Dominate. Brave search share-of-voice, when shown, is labelled a visibility proxy — not this board.

- Estimand
- The client board uses a page estimand for the citation-rate series. Branded and goal (generic) rates stay on separate lines.
- What we do not measure here
- Google blue-link rank, Maps placement, or invented engagement. Agent-readiness of the site is Layer 1 / Site Care, not this board.
What this is not
- Not a rank tracker. Engines do not have positions we sell.
- Not the free Layer 1 Audit. Readiness and citations stay on separate pages.
- Not a citation guarantee. Access, authority, and accuracy still decide whether an engine quotes you.
- Not a blended headline rate. Branded citations prove plumbing; goal citations are the authority signal.

- How is a citation board different from a rank tracker?
- Rank trackers estimate search positions. We ask real answer engines your tracked questions and record whether you are cited — including the checks where you are not.
- What is the difference between branded and goal questions?
- Branded questions mention your name. Citations there prove an engine can find you when asked directly. Goal questions do not mention you. Winning those is the authority signal, and the two rates are never combined.
- Will monitoring alone get us cited?
- No. Measurement does not move the needle by itself. The monthly Strategy Report names what to execute. You can do that work, add article kits, or step up to Grow where we research and score and your agent writes.
